About

Hey, I’m Gareth Evans. I’ve been writing professionally, on and off, for over a decade now. Everything from whitepapers, blogs and tweets, to book chapters, website copy and pitch decks. If it’s words you’re after, I can help.

If, however, you’re interested in knowing a bit more about me before we work together, here’s my life story. I’ve tried to keep it short and moderately interesting…

2009-2012: City and Regional Economic Development

I got my first real start working with a guy who is an advisor to cities on economic development and strategy. That was way back in 2009. My first gig was tearing apart a 200 page piece of work, written by someone whose first language wasn’t English, for the Chinese Government. I know, no pressure, right?

Anywho, that all worked out. And after painstakingly pulling those 200 pages apart, and turning them into 10 concise articles, I passed the interview stage and began working with the guy full time.

The next three years were a bit of a whirlwind. I wrote blog posts, whitepapers, completed countless hours of research, wrote book chapters and even worked on the investment prospectus for the Thames Gateway, in the build up to the London 2012 Olympics.

These are my top 5 moments:

  1. Researcher and editor of the Thames Gateway Investment Prospectus for the London 2012 Olympic Games, The Business Benefit of Hosting Global Events: London 2012 and Inward Investment in the Thames Gateway.
  2. Researched and co-authored report, Economic Growth and Inclusion & the Intermediate Tier of Governance: The Case for Reform and Policy Options, for the UK Government.
  3. Copywriter and researcher of Open Space: An Asset Without a Champion. The paper was presented at MIPIM 2011.
  4. Copywriter for the report, Public Leadership of Public and Private Investment: The Role of City Leaders in Major Development Projects, as part of a joint initiative between the ULI Daniel Rose Centre and ULI Europe’s Urban Investment Network.
  5. Researched, co-authored, and edited report, Exploring the Future of Housing Investment in the UK, as part of the Urban Investment Network’s series of publications.

2010-2011: Blogging For Rugby Spectator

In my last year of working in the world of economic development, I also started a rugby blog, called Rugby Spectator. It began in the build up to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

I wrote editorial pieces on a daily basis, discussing all kinds of aspects of rugby – something I know a bit about, having played academy rugby for Worcester RFC, in the year after I left school.

The blog grew quickly. And it opened up a world of opportunities, including writing for Sky Sports and Setanta Sports during the Rugby World Cup, reviewing two video rugby video games and producing an article on the impact of the Rugby World Cup on New Zealand’s economy.

2012 – 2018: Startups and Marketing

Deciding I needed a change, and craving more variety, I moved into the world of startups. Over the six year period, I worked for countless clients in all kinds of fields, including gaming, travel, languages and small business strategy.

A couple of key highlights included:

  1. Head of Communications for FlashSticks, the foreign language post-it note company. I created all of the text for their website and marketing materials, wrote blogs and implemented the marketing strategy I created across their social media platforms.
  2. Mowjow PLC. As chief copywriter, for a Norwegian owned social gaming company, I was charged with helping to create the Mowjow brand, including work on their business plan, investment prospectus and all online properties.

2018-2023: Teaching and Tutoring

Yeah, I bet you didn’t see that coming. Well, neither did I. You see, in 2018, I had a bit of a health scare. And it really shook me up. Teaching acted as a lifeline for me.

Prior to all my writing exploits, I’d always worked with children, doing sports and leadership coaching. After overcoming my illness, which lasted about a year, I decided to give teaching a go. I’m now in my sixth year of teaching and I love it. But I also love to write. So I do both.

2024 and Beyond: A Brand New Adventure

2024 really is a year of adventure for me. You see, while I continue to work as a writer, I’m also moving to Malaysia to continue my teaching career in an International School. So, expect a lot of travel-related writing on the blog this year, I guess.

Anywho, if you made it this far, fair play to you. I know I waffled on a bit, but I wanted to give you some idea of who I am. I wanted to give you context.

I’m an experienced writer who knows how to take your story, and your insights, and turn them into words that will give you industry-leading authority.

If that sounds like something you need, you know what to do.
